WHAT WE DO

The Faiz Lab

We are interested in using reprogramming to change the fate of cells in the brain. If resident brain cells could be reprogrammed into neural stem cells or directly transformed into neurons, we could generate new therapies for brain repair. In understanding how brain cells shift fate and their lineage relationships, we could target the best source of cells to attempt to regenerate the brain after numerous CNS disorders have taken hold, including stroke and Parkinson's. Our research focuses on identifying the molecules that control the transition of cell fate within the neural lineage, and determining if this type of in vivo reprogramming is a viable strategy for the treatment of stroke.
